Microsoft’s Touchscreen “Surface 2” System Nearing Completion

Neowin recently highlighted a video put out by Microsoft that promotes Surface 2, a system that goes beyond multi-touch input to real interoperability.

The video shows how the system, paired in this case with a desk-sized display, can not only handle multi-touch input but object-based input as well.  In the video, users put color swatches on the screen to see how it works in an interior design, and the system reads input off a business card set on it.

As hardware miniturization and touch become more and more practical beyond phones, as evidenced by the flood of tablets out there, the PC as we know it may soon dissapear.  No mouse, no keyboard, maybe even no beige box full of components.
