iOS 6 Released Today: Guard Your Jailbroken Device!

Don’t jump the upgrade gun just yet

Today (Sept 19) Apple’s iOS 6 is due to be released to consumers as an upgrade. However for those with jailbroken devices upgrading from iOS 5 could ruin your jailbreak. The jailbreaking community has been working on cracking the OS for some time and a beta version of the RedsnOw tool for iOS 6 is out, but there are still issues with the exploit so I would say hold off for now.

While most users will upgrade to iOS 6, there isn’t really any reason to rush to do so. This is doubly so for those with jailbroken and unlocked phones, as the upgrade will likely eliminate the unlock. While the device will still be usable, it won’t get a signal to send or receive calls.

Best bet is to wait until the dev team or some other group gets a solid jailbreak out into the wild.
